Revise! Revise! Revise!

It turns out I was so naive about about getting a book published.  I went to a seminar on how to get published, took copious notes and when I left, I was thinking, wow, it is so much more involved than I realized, but I can do this.  Then I attended a seminar on how to market your book, you remember, the one I spoke about which led me to start a blog and spend more time on social media.  I thought that was way over my head, but again I thought I could figure out at least the basics. Now I have done it again, I signed up for a revision class.  After just two classes, I am amazed that any book ever gets finished.

This must be what I missed in third or fourth grade, structure, plot, settings, narrative arc, theme.  I remember having to figure those out whenever I had to write a book report.  It came as news to me that I have to figure those out for the book I am writing.  That’s, I guess, the process of revision.  So now that I hear that others have re-written and revised dozens of times, it makes sense.  There is so much more to it than I realized.

I am eager to learn how to produce a really good book.  However, I must also admit that I am very anxious to see a finished product.  Will I ever see a book?  Will I ever get to do the content, line and copy editing?  I certainly hope so.  Otherwise, you will have followed me for naught.  Trust me when I tell have have written more than 49,000 words in about twenty chapters, subject to editing.  It just needs a few more revisions.

Next time, I promise to post an excerpt.
